Ok, Safari fans. If you’re still holding out for a few of your favorite features to appear in Mozilla’s Firefox before you’re convinced to make the switch, the cosmetic add-on Fission might be enough to get you to jump ship. This little add-on doesn’t clone or skin your Safari browsing experience, nor does it actually build anything extremely useful into the browser that’s otherwise lacking between the two competing platforms. But that’s OK–not every add-on should move mountains just as long as it provides some kind of neat feature that you wouldn’t be able to find normally, right? Well, that’s the definition of Fission

When I was a lad, it was all soundcards ’round here. Now a trip to your local PC emporium’s a very different experience. You’ll find a handful of cards pitched at pro-gamers, a couple of USB interface devices and lots of speakers. Speakers and headphones.

Ion graphics can’t turn this netbook into a gaming rig To say that netbooks have historically been hobbled by Intel’s integrated graphics is to unfairly ignore their slow single-core CPUs, 1GB RAM maximum, miniscule keyboards, and awkward screen resolutions. It’s an unfair assertion, of course—netbooks came into existence to be cheap, portable, low-powered machines. But the definition of netbook has been stretched, to the point where HP’s new Mini 311, while still considered a netbook, has an 11.6-inch 1366×768 screen, Nvidia integrated graphics, a large keyboard, and can support up to 3GB of DDR3 RAM, for less than $500. At first, the Mini 311 looks a lot like any other 11.6-inch netbook on the market: Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, 3 USB ports, and a somewhat squashed keyboard

In New Mexico, Arthur Firstenberg is suing his next door neighbour because the electromagnetic fields from her iPhone are cooking his brain, or something. It’s a baseless lawsuit, of course – it’s not the iPhone that’s melting his head, but the CIA space lasers – but it got us thinking about the things people do online that, in a fair and just world, would see them sued until they squeaked. We came up with ten. Are there any we’ve missed?

Marantz has announced a new, cheaper version of its reference Blu-ray player which goes by the catchy name of the Marantz UD8004. While it’s certainly a more reasonably-priced player than the company’s flagship machine, which would set you back £5,000, you will still have to pay through the nose for the UD8004, as it comes to market at £2,299. Now, rudimentary maths on our part show that the UD8004 costs the equivalent of 10 PlayStation 3s.

The Tannoy DC8T is the middle model in the three-strong Definition range, which have very little in common with the models of the same name that were marketed in the mid-1990s. It is essentially a cross between the other two, using the driver size of the standmount DC8 within a floorstanding two-and-a-half-way configuration like the DC10T. The other model in the DC range is the DC6T.
