Tannoy is a legend in many markets. We still hear the expression ‘Tannoy System’ for when people are referring to say, announcement systems at shopping malls, and it is also revered for its recording studio monitors, having made ones big enough for me to live in! Lately it has been getting right on the home cinema case with both superb HCC-award-winning high-end sets and entry-level square-corner speakers for folks on a budget. But bass? Well a huge studio monitor rumbles, but subwoofers are a specialist side to the speaker-maker’s art and Tannoy has previously left me wanting. Its new three-strong TS series woofers do look like the part, though, and I reckon they provide deeply superior performance to what’s been offered in the past.

As you may have noticed , we developed something of a healthy, foaming-at-the-mouth appreciation for Bethesda’s modernized take on the Fallout universe. But that doesn’t mean we’re not equally stoked for Obsidian’s turn in the driver’s seat – especially considering that they’ve essentially reunited the original Fallout team for another shot at post-apocalyptic perfection. But enough intro-based dilly-dallying. It’s time for you to wait on something else, instead. That thing being Fallout: New Vegas itself, which is now officially scheduled for a “fall 2010” release

It’s bad enough trying to dodge sports cars and sedans drifting into opposing lanes because the driver’s busy firing off a text message, but try going up against a bus or 18-wheeler and let us know how that plays out. That’s not something we ever want to encounter, nor does the Department of Transportation like the idea, who has now made it illegal for bus drivers and truckers to pound out a message on their cellphone rather than pay attention to the road. “We want the drivers of big rigs and buses and those who share the roads with them to be safe,” said Ray LaHood, Transportation Secretary.

Google and Audi have teamed up to “take Google services in a car to the next level,” the search giant said in an official blog post earlier this week. What they’re talking about is integrating Google Earth into the newly unveiled Audi A8. The Audi A8 becomes the first car manufacturer to bring Google Earth right into the vehicle, which will be combined with a handful of Google services. Drivers will have access to 3D satellite imagery, terrain information, and a bunch of other geo information based on the current location. But that’s not all

Coming as a surprise only to anyone who has never been around a teenager before, Reuters reports that young people often ignore laws against using cell phones or texting while sitting in the driver’s seat. “The handheld cell phone is relative easy for us to spot, we can see when somebody has their phone up to ther ear” California Highy Patrol (CHP) spokeswoman Fran Clader said. “But with the texting, it’s a little bit more of a challenge to catch them in the act, because we have to see it and if they are holding it down in their lap it’s going to be harder for us to see.” As it stands, 19 states and the District of Columbia have made it illegal for any driver to text while driving, while 9 other states prohibit just young people from texting and driving at the same time.
