Pre-orders of the JooJoo Web Tablet May Beat iPad Arrivals

Fusion Garage announced yesterday that the production of its JooJoo Web tablet, originally known as the CrunchPad, is in full swing. According to the Singapore-based company, the first wave of JooJoo tablets will hit the market before the end of February , meaning that the pre-orders of Fusion Garage’s $499 tablet will precede the iPad. Besides counting down to the JooJoo’s launch, it is actively lobbying potential investors. The company said that it has received a fresh investment from the CSL Group, a Malaysian mobile device OEM and distributor.  ”This is [a] landscape changing manufacturing agreement in the CE hardware market in much the same way Dell changed the PC business model with its direct to consumer sales approach back in the 1990s,” Fusion Garage CEO Chandrasekar Rathakrishnan said in a statement.

TechCrunch Files Federal Lawsuit, Probably not a Good Time to Buy a JooJoo

Got to like a man who keeps his word, and revs up the entertainment value of technology news at the same time. Michael Arrington, as promised, has filed a lawsuit against Fusion Garage in the Northern District of California Federal Court. And, in a clear tit-for-tat, he’s got as little nice to say about Chandrasekar Rathakrishnan as Rathakrishnan had to say about him. Arrington’s lawsuit claims “Fraud and Deceit, Misappropriation of Business Ideas, Breach of Fiduciary Duty, Unfair Competition and Violations of the Lanham Act.” The suit seeks both damages and an injunction against Fusion Garage’s  marketing the JooJoo, which Arrington says is built on intellectual property that is part his. Arrington also offers potential JooJoo pre-buyers a warning: Fusion Garage is broke, so any payments you make for a JooJoo will probably be used to defend the lawsuit, not produce you a nifty tablet computer.

CrunchPad Tablet Project Implodes

One day we’re going to see a tablet PC. But that day just got pushed back with the official demise of the CrunchPad. In a tale of intrigue and woe, Michael Arrington, the man behind the machine, tells us investors have unceremoniously pulled the plug on the project–as far as his involvement is concerned–and have left the fate of this particular tablet device dangling in the wind.
