New Guitar Game Trades Buttons for Actual Strings

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

You’re not likely to find a bona fide rock star on stage pounding a series of colorful buttons rather than strumming away on real guitar strings, so as fun as Rock Band and Guitar Hero are to play, they’re not very faithful recreations of the real deal. Looking to bridge that gap is Seven45 Studios and the company’s upcoming game, Power Gig: Rise of the SixString. Like other musical videogames, you’ll follow on-screen beat sequences, only you’ll have to strum the right string rather than mash a button.

Linux-based Guitar Midi Controller Does Away with Strings

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

If there’s one thing Guitar Hero and Rock Band taught us, it’s that we don’t need strings to be a rock star and rip gnarly riffs with the best of them. Sure, they’re just video games, but the Misa Digital Guitar is the real deal , and it’s just the kind of stringless guitar living room legends have been waiting for. Consider the Misa a glorified MIDI controller whose sound “is limited only by what you connect it to.” There are 144 note buttons for the left hand to sift through, while the right hand rocks out by tapping a touch screen control pad. And of course it’s powered by Linux, which means the door has been left wide open for programmers to conjure up some funky modifications

Totally Awesome Lego Wallpapers for Your Desktop

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

It’s no secret that we love a great set of wallpapers around here, and when we stumbled on the first Lego wallpaper we knew what we had to do: put together another wallpaper roundup for our great readers! You’ll probably note that not all of these images are big enough for some of today’s gigantic screens, so you’ll probably need to either tell Windows to stretch the image out, or put them on a different background color. The first batch of images are all linked to the same place, a fun Lego-related site called BrikWars . The rest are linked from other places, but you can click on any of the images to get to the download site. As a bonus, I found three square images that an enterprising reader could probably sew together, which would be great for a widescreen setup.
