Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

This year’s Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona is shaping up to be the best yet. But with a rather mute response to Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 Series announcement, it’s taken another company to blow us away in the mobile phone stakes. That company is HTC and below are some beautiful pictures of its latest handset range. HTC Legend The HTC Legend is the Hero on steroids.

MWC 2010: Hands on: HTC Legend review

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

The HTC Hero has been around for a while, and we’re waiting for an upgrade. Well, here it is – the HTC Legend, squarely picking up where the Hero left off. HTC is trying to make out to us that the Legend is not the direct sequel to the Hero, but rather a continuation of the ‘baseline’ set by that successful handset. And indeed, the Legend certainly has some upgrades – the first thing you notice is the whole body is hewn from aluminium, giving it a very MacBook look. But we’d know that characteristic lip at the base of the phone anywhere, and if you delve below the hood as well, you’ll see that the Legend has some similar specs coupled with some nice upgrades

MWC 2010: HTC Legend unveiled with top-end Android specs

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

HTC has finally unveiled a new phone to follow up the success of the Hero – the HTC Legend . Although the company protests otherwise, claiming the Hero set a ’successful baseline for our other Android handsets to follow’, the design is similar with a 3.2-inch screen and protruding lip at the bottom of the device. Hewn from a single block of aluminium, the HTC Legend looks more like a shrunken Macbook, dispensing with the Teflon coating for something a little more stylish. It’s rocking the latest version of Android – 2.1 – meaning living wallpapers and integrated social networking via Friendstream – a new way of seeing all your Twitter, Facebook and Flickr feeds in one place. While the 3.2-inch screen size has remained the same, the overall dimensions of the HTC Legend are smaller than the Hero thanks to being built from one piece of metal.

HTC Hero sequel – Legend – pretty much certain

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

HTC’s follow up to the successful Hero handset – the HTC Legend – has been pictured again, with the launch of the device surely imminent. The HTC Legend has a very similar ‘lipped’ chassis as the Hero, with the trackball replaced by and optical trackpad. It’s also likely to be running the latest Android 2.1 version of the OS as well. We’re hoping that HTC is going to work its optimisation magic on this model, as the specs aren’t as exciting as some we’ve been treated to recently, such as the Bravo . Up the OLED The HTC Legend will have a 3.2-inch HVGA OLED capacitive touchscreen (nice) as well as a 600MHz Qualcomm processor – which isn’t as headline grabbing as the likes of its 1GHz Snapdragon processor

Exclusive: 3 outlines iPad, Android and Spotify plans

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

At a network briefing today CEO Kevin Russell talked about 3’s strategy regarding zeitgeist products, such as Android and the iPad. When asked by TechRadar about the possibility of being one of the big data providers for the 3G iPad, Russell stated that it’s not something that would fit into the company’s strategy: “To range the iPad would be a great thing, and the iPhone in time on the right terms, but we prefer to be doing something that other guys [networks] would be less comfortable doing. “If every man and dog in for bidding for [the iPad], it’s like in the Premier League with footballers, you end up paying more than you should do.

The Google Nexus One phone has been ‘leaked’ once more – only this time it appears to be the full spec list on offer. And according to sources from Engadget, the phone will only be available on an ‘invite-only’ scheme when it’s first released, which appears to be from 5 January. The specs don’t tell us a huge amount that’s not expected/already heard , but it’s nice to get some ‘confirmation’ that it will have a 3.7-inch OLED screen, a 1GHz processor and have a 4GB microSD card in the box. Specs appeal Other than that, it’s the expected 5MP camera with autofocus and LED flash, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, Teflon-coated back (like the Hero) and a trackball. There’s no word on how much the Nexus One will be, or when it will be leaving US shores, but we can’t imagine it will be too much longer after the US launch, given that Google employees the world over have been given one to play with

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Right on cue, HTC’s 2010 roadmap appears to have been leaked for 2010, showing off a slew of new Windows Mobile- and Android-powered phones. While there are five Google powered devices, the headline grabbing one appears to be the Legend, which looks to be the sequel to the Hero, albeit it with minimal upgrades – the main one being the trackball being dropped for a trackpad. It will also be encased in metal, rather than the Teflon-coated plastic number surrounding the Hero. The tipster of all these announcements, over on XDA Developers Forum , has stated that this will be arriving in March 2010. The other ‘headline’ device is the HTC Bravo, also running on the Android OS, but will have an HD2-matching spec list of a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 256MG Ram and the latest 2.1 version of Android
