Nokia-Apple patent trial not expected until 2012

Nokia and Apple are supposed to be duking it out in court over both infringing on each other’s patents – but that doesn’t seem likely to happen any time soon. According to Reuters , the duo will only actually get to present their cases to a packed courtroom (probably with a comedic, oddball lawyer if TV dramas are to be believed) by 2012. This means that this litigation battle – unless settled in the intervening period – will be dragged over months and months, by which point the balance of power in the mobile world may have shifted even further. What’s it all about?

Touch Screen Typist Sets a New Record

  Blackberry loves to tout the virtues of a virtual keyboard, but regardless of how fast you think you might be able to thumb type on a Curve, I’m willing to bet you’ve got nothing on this guy .  The unnamed hero featured in the video after the jump proves it’s possible to reach an eye-popping 83 WPM on an iPhone, and his accuracy is remarkably high. If you think you have what it takes to show this guy up, cruse on over to the App Store on your iPod Touch or iPhone and search for iTextSpeed. Anyone else out there ready to trade in their Palm Pre’s and Blackberry’s after this display?

Listen to Local FM Radio in Windows 7 Media Center

If you have a supported tuner card and connected FM antenna, you can listen to your favorite local over-the-air FM stations in Windows 7 Media Center. Before the FM radio option will be available in Windows Media Center, you’ll need to have a TV or Radio tuner card installed and configured. If you have a TV tuner card installed, you may already have a Radio tuner as well. Many TV tuner cards also have built in FM tuners

Nokia Hopes to Make Comeback with New Symbian 3 OS

Nobody really talks a whole lot about Nokia anymore, not with sexy smartphones like the Motorola Droid and Google’s Nexus One stealing all the spotlight. Part of the problem is that Symbian, even though it dominates the market, hasn’t kept pace with other OSes. Look for that to change with Symbian 3. According to Nokia, “it is about renewal” with the upcoming OS and the new phones that will be built around it. Symbian 3 should be “functionally complete” by the end of Q1.

Opera Mini 5 Beta Now Available on Android

Add Enhanced Balloon Tooltips to Firefox

The default balloon tooltip in Firefox does well at times but then there are instances when a person finds that more information would be much better. The Tooltip Plus extension for Firefox will give your browser that nice extra information boost. Review: Samsung Galaxy Portal i5700

Samsung, the famed Korean jack-of-all-technologies, is having another go at mastering the Android phone scene, after making a bit of a mess of it with last year’s original Galaxy. The i7500 Galaxy was a brave first attempt, but Samsung threw it away, alienating early adopters by not bothering to update the phone past its basic Android 1.5 operating system. Seriously, there are petitions all over the place. Some men are still very angry about it all
