Another month and another company claiming to have the best gaming mouse known to man, and this time it’s landed on our desks in the form of the Naos 5000. This time it’s Swedish peripherals outfit Mionix’s turn to churn out meaningless phrases such as ‘light-years ahead of the game’ while blinding you with numbers, stats and brightly-lit LEDs. Let’s get the stat-gasm out of the way first; the Naos 5000 has got seven (count ‘em) programmable buttons, 5040 dpi laser sensor, 1ms response time, 40,000MHz sampling rate and a tracking speed of 5.1m/sec. I’m sure you’ll agree, that’s a whole lot of numbers

Currently, pornographic websites have the same suffix as normal sites – so we are told – but there are calls for porn on the internet to get its own domain, so parents and the like can easier block sites. The problem with the idea, though, is that it will be voluntary, so sites hosting pornographic content would still be allowed to carry a .com address. And then there’s the fact that adding a .xxx to porn sites would make them easier to find. Not that finding pornographic sites on the internet is too much of a problem at the moment (so we are told)

Samsung, the famed Korean jack-of-all-technologies, is having another go at mastering the Android phone scene, after making a bit of a mess of it with last year’s original Galaxy. The i7500 Galaxy was a brave first attempt, but Samsung threw it away, alienating early adopters by not bothering to update the phone past its basic Android 1.5 operating system. Seriously, there are petitions all over the place. Some men are still very angry about it all

My daughter knows how to use my phone – not just pressing buttons at random but unlocking it, navigating between home screens, finding the app she wants to play with, launching it and shutting it down again. Sony Ericsson has quickly followed up the recently-announced Vivaz with a QWERTY enabled version: the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro. There’s not a lot more to the phone beyond the fact that it’s now got a slide-out QWERTY keyboard stuck on the back, but at least Sony Ericsson is preparing for a wider appeal to consumers. It’s sadly not a 5-line keyboard, meaning you’ll have to make do with joint keys for the numbers, but in the interests of compactness we’ll let that slide. Re-cap Just to refresh your Sony Ericsson-addled brains, the Vivaz (and now Vivaz Pro) pack 720p video recording, a widescreen HVGA display, run Symbian 5th edition (like the Satio) and that ‘human curvature’ chassis we heard so much about

Apple’s iPad has already become one of the company’s most divisive products. Opinions are split on whether Apple’s giant iPod touch points towards the future of personal computing, or whether it’s a superfluous peripheral that’ll soon be filed alongside relative disasters such as the Cube. Our money’s on the former, but cast aside subjective views on Apple’s latest slice of shiny excitement and questions nonetheless abound. Depending on what direction Apple ends up pitching iPad (’standalone computer for the masses’ or ‘advanced peripheral’), major features appear to be absent or unannounced. And then there’s the question of whether to risk buying ‘iPad 1.0′ or wait for the first major revision before parting with your cash.
