Apple iPad UK release date set for ‘late April’

The Apple iPad will be coming to the UK ‘late April’ according to Apple, with both versions of the device (Wi-Fi and 3G) shipping at the same time. The US will get the Apple iPad first, however, with Apple announcing it is coming in its 3G guise to America next month, with the official US release date 3 April. Apple has finally given specific details of a launch after its website teased for months that it would be out in ‘late March’.

Apple iPad UK release pushed back to April?

The first batch of Apple iPads may not hit shops until April, with a ‘manufacturing bottleneck’ being blamed for the possible delay. The news was relayed by Peter Misek, an analyst at Canaccord Adams, who believes that we won’t see any iPads in March. Launch will be delayed “An unspecified production problem at the iPad’s manufacturer, Hon Hai Precision, will likely limit the launch region to the US and the number of units available to roughly 300K in the month of March,” he said to clients.

Bi-hourly Windows 7 RC shutdown begins

Microsoft is to begin bi-hourly shutdowns of the Release Candidate version of Windows, a process which is set to continue until 1 June. We notified you last week that this was about to begin but the official date for the shutdowns is today – 1 March. Up until 1 June these shutdowns will take place, then they will be replaced with a permanent ‘cheapskate’ branding on your computer. This will come in the form of your wallpaper being removed, in its place the statement : “This copy of Windows is not genuine” will appear

Microsoft Innovation: Clumsy and Uncompetitive or Prudent and Wise?

Today, former Microsoft vice president Dick Brass lays the wood to Microsoft in the New York Times for being a “clumsy, uncompetitive innovator.” Mere hours later, on the Official Microsoft Blog, vice president of Corporate Communications Frank X. Shaw responds with a ‘no we aren’t’ rebuttal . What’s interesting is that both make valid points, and, legitimately, both may be right. Brass’s bone of contention is the way Microsoft handles competition.

3G Apple iPad UK release date unveiled

Apple has announced via its UK website it will be shipping the 3G version of the iPad in April for the UK. This means the official UK version of the iPad will first land in late March, and barely days later will be followed by the better specified but more expensive 3G iteration. Jobs said at the time of launch that the iPad data plans internationally would be announced in June or July, so it must mean that a deal to provide data in the UK has been struck sooner than expected.

Has the Twitter UK peak been reached?

New statistics show that Twitter users in the UK have declined over the past few months, prompting analysts to question whether the site has hit its peak. Nielson’s figures show that 4,427,000 UK people logged onto Twitter in September of last year, with the figure declining by 24 per cent in October to 3,364,000. This dropped further (although percentage wise not as much) to 3,414,000 in December – a trend which is seeping into January’s figures. Twitter off-shoots popular It’s not all doom and gloom however (if you can call a global audience of 50 million plus doom and gloom), as Alex Burmaster, of Nielson, notes that Twitter off-shoots are rising in popularity
