Reports are suggesting that the Google Nexus One will be delayed past its expected April UK release date. The reports state that the UK release of the Google Nexus One has been pushed back to mid-April, not earlier in the month as previously expected. The reason for the delay hasn’t been given, but it’s all the more confusing as other reports are claiming that shipments of the Nexus One are imminent to the UK, available on the Vodafone network. Not just the UK Of course, the UK is just one territory where Vodafone will be the official contract provider for the Nexus One, as it has plans to do so all over Europe. But the UK will be one of the first territories, so if the phone is shipping, it should come here first

The BlackBerry slider phone – the one that has been shown off in a number of spy shots in the last few weeks – has had a bit more dirt dug up on it. New photos have emerged (shocking, we know) of the new BlackBerry, with comparisons to the Bold 9700 . Some are even positing that this will be called the 9700a, essentially a slider phone update to the popular new Bold. Bigger, longer – faster? The photos show the new slider phone next to a BlackBerry Bold 9700, highlighting that it’s much thicker and a little longer (which you’d expect with an extra expanse of screen and keyboard wedged in there).

Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing said on Friday that he sees mobile internet devices making up the vast majority of the company’s profits, possibly as much as 70-80% , in as little as 5 years. Currently, most sales come from the Thinkpad and Ideapad line of notebooks. Lenovo plans to accomplish this changeover by expanding into emerging markets. Devices likely to make up these sales are tablets, smartphones, and smartbooks.

New ‘photos’ of the iPhone 4G have supposedly leaked out via an internet forum. We say supposedly as we really can’t believe that these are real – not least because the phone is called an iPhone 4G, which we really don’t think will be Jobs’ moniker of choice come April. But the sheer graft gone into creating the range of images is magnificent – we’re seeing docks, different colour chassis – heck, they ’spy shot grabbers’ have even designed new internal packaging. Spec-less As you can imagine, there’s no specs to go along with this very-likely-made-up photoshoot (which is authentically set up in some dodgy warehouse – realistic). But hey, we love to see people trying – and it at least adds credence to the notion that the next iPhone will come in a range of colours

Samsung, the famed Korean jack-of-all-technologies, is having another go at mastering the Android phone scene, after making a bit of a mess of it with last year’s original Galaxy. The i7500 Galaxy was a brave first attempt, but Samsung threw it away, alienating early adopters by not bothering to update the phone past its basic Android 1.5 operating system. Seriously, there are petitions all over the place. Some men are still very angry about it all

MSN Video Player has been a big enough success through a pilot scheme to be launched as a major new product, and Microsoft is not ruling out offering the service to television manufacturers, on Xbox and through the forthcoming Windows Phone 7 Series. A million people have already used the ad-funded and free MSN Video Player in beta to watch full-length programmes, trailers and clips, enough of an audience to convince the portal that the service has the appeal to become a key asset for Microsoft. With users staying for an average of 25 minutes – far more than major catch-up services like ITV Player and 4OD – and advertisers champing at the bit to buy up pre-roll adverts before the features, Microsoft has now sealed deals with the likes of Endemol and Shed Media to expand their offering further. Thousand hours “We are expanding our catalogue to over 1,000 hours,” explained MSN’s Rob Crossen. “We’ve signed a number of new deals…we’ve gone out there and sourced content that appeals to our audience.

An unsuspecting Vodafone customer got quite a nasty surprise when she got her new HTC Magic (MyTouch 3G in the states). Upon plugging it into her Windows PC, Panda Antivirus sounded the alarm. It turns out that the new phone contained several malware programs including an installer for the Mariposa botnet. This wasn’t just any poor soul, lost in the wilds of technology though. Nope, the victim of this sneak attack works for Panda Security.

Google’s plan to release its own mobile phone – the Nexus One – seems to have backfired as sales estimates have been slashed. Such was the hype around the search giant’s own phone that some analysts predicted that the Nexus One would sell 3.5m units in its first year. But the lack of marketing around the phone (coupled with the fact the HTC Desire is essentially the same device with greater functionality) means that investment bank Goldman Sachs has dramatically reduced its estimates.

LG has announced the new Cookie Fresh GS290, another budget mobile phone to appeal to the masses. We brought you news of this phone last week, when it was first shown off at CeBIT – and now it’s been made official, which may not be the right way round for a new release. But the good news is we’ve managed to sniff out a UK release date – it will be landing on our frosty shores at the start of April.

While the world is going gaga over the HTC Legend and Desire pair, the cogs at the Taiwanese HQ haven’t stopped turning – and the HTC Supersonic seems next up. A blurry web video has leaked out of the phone, which apparently boasts a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen and Android 2.1. The video is pretty basic – all we learn is that it comes in white and has a dual LED flash to go with the unknown megapixeled camera. Snappy power Previous reports have stated that the HTC Supersonic will be packing the same 1GHz Snapdragon processor we’ve seen in umpteen phones these days – which we like for a phone with this size of screen
