Apple to Finally Add Multitasking to the iPhone

See what you can accomplish if you whine about something enough? Even the mighty Apple, which lords it above consumers with it’s ‘my way or the highway’ software approach, will capitulate and give the customer what he wants: the iPhone is getting multitasking . Not right away, mind you. And, if the sources AppleInsider uses are not as reliable as they claim, maybe not at all. But, should it come to fruition, it will be in version 4.0 of the iPhone OS, for which there is no projected release date

More details on the much-vaunted Microsoft Courier have arrived, with firm rumours that it is a Tegra 2 powered dual-screen device running Windows CE 6. Engadget has got hold of the details from a ‘trusted source’ but with new pictures of the user interface that follow on from the Gizmodo video leaked last year , it’s certainly credible. Apparently the Courier ‘digital journal’ will be under an inch thick, weigh in at less than a kilo and is around 130 x 180mm. Tegra 2 Interestingly, the device will be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor and will sport Windows CE 6 – which is the OS that the Windows Phone series 7 is based on

Project Canvas manufacturers revealed

Project Canvas’ Richard Halton has revealed a list of manufacturers that are keen to make set-top boxes for the BBC-backed IPTV collaboration – with some major names conspicuous in their absence. Although LG and Humax are numbered among the list given out by Halton, many will point to the names that are not being bandied around as an important factor. The likes of Sony have already criticised the project in the past – believing that the user experience for IPTV connected boxes should be set by the manufacturer and not the consortium – which consists of broadcasters, BT and Talk Talk.

Apple hands lawsuit to HTC over iPhone infringements

Apple has announced it is to drag HTC to the courts over its handsets, hitting the company with a lawsuit referring to over 20 iPhone patents it says have been infringed. The patents refer to the phone’s user interface, underlying architecture and hardware but don’t specifically mention Google or Android. Google has had close ties with HTC ever since the company launched its Android mobile OS first on the G1 , and since then HTC has launched a Google-specific handset (the Nexus One ) and a number of ‘with Google’ phones as well. Decided to do something about it In short, the tie-up with Google is a significant one that has started to threaten Apple’s dominance in the handset and app market with the iPhone.
